With more than 450 million subscriptions on YouTube, Jimmy Donaldson (27), known as MrBeast, is the most successful and biggest YouTuber in the world. Now he is taking the next step and opening his own amusement park on Thursday.
MrBeast’s videos, but in real life
As expected from a theme park, “Beast Land” has roller coasters and drop towers. However, competitions like those in his videos will also take place there. As usual, these promise big prizes as a reward. In an announcement video he says: “We have built our own games that are not available anywhere else.” MrBeast’s videos become reality. The visitors become candidates and competitors for challenges.
MrBeast’s videos are viewed millions of times through spectacular and crazy challenges. He gives away expensive items like cars and houses or lets people compete against each other in challenges to win big prizes. The theme park will feel like one of his videos, says the YouTuber.
When making the announcement, the 27-year-old revealed the park’s location: Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. This choice is heavily criticized by people in the comments: “Everything for human rights, but then sell it to Saudi Arabia?” or “Is the park built by slaves?”. Human rights organizations repeatedly criticize the fact that such events are used to cultivate the country’s image.
Why Saudi Arabia?
Apparently the government actually has a hand in the park. There is official cooperation with the state authority, which supports the project as part of the national entertainment program. “Beast Land” is part of the government-funded Riyadh Season – the country’s largest entertainment event. Every year, Riyadh is transformed into a festival with concerts, exhibitions, restaurants and leisure activities. The event aims to position Saudi Arabia as a modern travel destination.
Would you visit a theme park like “Beast Land” in Saudi Arabia, despite the criticism of the human rights situation?
