In Madagascar, the Mpox epidemic continues in the country with 11 new cases confirmed in SE10-2026, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health.
A total of 1,186 cases have been reported since December 18, 2025, of which 539 cases are confirmed in 37 districts.
The town of Mahajanga remains the epicenter of the disease with 280 confirmed cases so far (52%). It is followed by Antananarivo Renivohitra with 74 cases (14%), Antananarivo Atsimondrano 25 cases (5%), Toliara 22 cases (4%) and Fianarantsoa 15 cases (3%).
To date, 374 patients have been declared cured.
The first death was confirmed on March 2. A 3-year-old child died of the disease on the night of February 28 at the Cenhosoa hospital center.
Faced with the mpox epidemic, 30,000 doses of vaccine produced by the Bavarian Nordic laboratory arrived in the country to support efforts to prevent and control the epidemic. The vaccine received a favorable opinion from the Technical Advisory Group on Vaccination (GT-CV) of Madagascar, in accordance with national procedures. These doses will make it possible to launch targeted vaccination of the most exposed populations, in particular front-line health workers and people at risk, in accordance with the guidelines defined by the health authorities.
