In their Correspondence,1 Hermenegildo Osvaldo Chitumba and colleagues criticise our analysis of mpox in Africa,2 claiming to “highlight an important omission, in which Angola was not included in the epidemiological assessment, despite having reported confirmed cases of the disease”. Our analysis covered the period from Jan 1, 2022, to Oct 30, 2024,2 and hence predated Angola’s first case reported on Nov 16, 2024. Their critique of our epidemiological analysis conflates these distinct timelines, potentially misleading readers about the accuracy and generalisability of our findings to later periods.
