The decision, made by the Director-General following the fourth meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) Emergency Committee on June 5,2025,acknowledges the ongoing need for coordinated international action.
The WHO Director-General expressed gratitude to the Emergency Committee’s chair, members, and Advisors. The proceedings of the meeting will be shared with States Parties to the IHR and made publicly available.
Temporary Recommendations for States Parties
The updated temporary recommendations are specifically directed towards States Parties experiencing monkeypox virus (MPXV) transmission, especially those with sustained community transmission and clusters of cases involving MPXV clade Ib. These recommendations supplement the existing standing recommendations for mpox, which remain valid until August 20,2025.
These measures align with the WHO Strategic framework for enhancing prevention and control of mpox: 2024-2027, guiding global efforts to manage and control the spread of mpox.
