Scheduled for May 19th at the Costa Adeje Tourism Development Center (CDTCA), the session will be led by Dr. Immaculate Mora Pesces, a distinguished expert in Mountain Medicine and a faculty member of the Canarian Mountain School, Fecamon’s training division. Dr.Mora Pesces will share her extensive knowledge, focusing on the crucial aspects of physical and technical readiness required for prosperous and safe hiking and pilgrimage experiences.

The Care on the Way
talk will emphasize two basic areas:
- Prevention and Treatment: addressing common ailments and injuries encountered on the trail, such as blisters, chafing, tendonitis, and sprains. According to a 2024 study by the Wilderness Medical society, proper preparation and awareness can reduce the incidence of these injuries by up to 40%.
- Technical Material: Providing guidance on the correct and efficient use of essential equipment. This includes practical advice on selecting appropriate footwear, adjusting backpacks for optimal comfort and weight distribution, and choosing suitable clothing for varying weather conditions.
These practical recommendations are key to ensuring both safety and comfort during extended hikes.
“camino de Santiago for Life”: A Journey of Support and Awareness
the talk gains particular importance as it precedes the third edition of the “Camino de Santiago for Life,” a project organized by the Carrera for Life Foundation. This initiative, designed for women and men affected by breast cancer and their companions, involves a 120-kilometer trek along the Portuguese route, scheduled from August 30th to September 7th.
The “Camino de Santiago for Life” aims to foster a supportive habitat where participants can share experiences and build connections. Simultaneously, it seeks to raise awareness among fellow pilgrims about the critical importance of early breast cancer detection and to celebrate survivorship. The project operates under the inspiring motto The road is the goal,
highlighting the significance of each step in the recovery process. the Health Area of the City Council of Adeje and the Ministry of Sports of the Canary Islands Government are supporting this project.
The primary objective of this march is to create a space of coexistence and mutual support, allowing to share experiences and establish links among the participants. Simultaneously, it seeks to raise awareness among other pilgrims about the vital importance of early detection of breast cancer and make survival after the disease.
