Sports Editorial, Dec 21 (EFE).- Morocco’s title in the U-20 soccer World Cup and the scandalous start to the NBA season marked the tenth month of 2025 in sports in America.

In addition, track cycling won a Mexican and a Spaniard in the World Cup held in Chile, the Africans maintained their dominance in the Chicago Marathon and the Brazilian Corinthians won the women’s Copa Libertadores for the sixth time.

Morocco dazzles

Moroccan football is not an illusion. After fourth place in the World Cup held three years ago in Qatar and won by Argentina, they showed they had a generation for a solid present and promising future by winning the U-20 World Cup in Chile, and precisely in a final against the Albiceleste.

The team led by Mohammed Ouahbi lifted the champion trophy for the first time by winning 2-0.

Yassir Zabiri, from the Portuguese Famalicao, was the star of the final played on October 19 at the National Stadium in Santiago by scoring a double in the 12th and 29th minutes.

Colombia completed the podium by defeating France.

NBA, a betting scandal

The NBA premiered its eightieth season on October 21, but four days later the US authorities revealed two devastating investigations into illegal sports betting and alleged rigging of results that could well serve as a script for a film with renewed prominence of the mafia.

The dark plot revealed the entanglement, apparently, of some League stars and led to the arrest of 31 people in 11 states, including members of Cosa Nostra.

Mexican and Spanish, world kings of the track

The Netherlands, Great Britain and Italy took the overall medal table at the Track Cycling World Championship, which was held in Chile from October 22 to 26.

The Mexican Yareli Acevedo obtained the gold medal after finishing first in the points test. With this triumph, the 24-year-old cyclist became the second from her country to win a world title, after Nancy Contreras in 2001.

Spaniard Albert Torres, 35, was proclaimed omnium champion for the second time. His first gold was at the 2014 Cali World Cup.

The Chicago Marathon was Kiplimo and Feysa’s affair

Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo crossed the finish line 2 hours and 2 minutes after starting on October 12. Their trail was followed by Kenyans Amos Kipruto and Alex Masai to complete the podium.

Ethiopian Hawi Feysa prevailed with a time of 2 hours and 14 minutes. Her compatriot Megertu Alemu was second and Tanzanian Magdalena Sha’uri took third place.

In the wheelchair, the Swiss Marcel Hug and the American Susannah Scaroni dominated.

Corinthians, six times ‘Libertadoras’ of America

On October 18, the Corinthians women’s team became champion of the Copa Libertadores for the sixth time over Colombian Deportivo Cali.

After a goalless draw at the Florencio Sola Stadium in Banfield, the Brazilians and Colombians played a penalty shootout in which ‘Timao’ won 5-3.
