A study conducted by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Chan revealed that physical activity is much better than inactivity, but exercising early in the morning may offer an additional set of health benefits.

By tracking 14,000 American volunteers and monitoring heart rate data via Fitbit devices, researchers found that people who exercised regularly in the morning were 31% less likely to develop coronary artery disease compared to those who exercised later in the day, according to Health.

The results also showed a decrease in the risk of developing other diseases in the same group, as the risk of high blood pressure decreased by 18%, high cholesterol by 21%, and type 2 diabetes by 30%, in addition to a decrease in the risk of obesity by 35%, regardless of the total amount of daily physical activity undertaken.

The study found that exercising specifically between 7 and 8 a.m. was associated with the lowest rates of coronary artery disease.

What factors may affect the benefits of morning exercise?

The researchers indicated that biological factors such as hormones, sleep quality, and genes, in addition to behavioral and psychological factors, may play a role in these results, stressing that conducting additional research may contribute to determining the impact of these factors and providing accurate recommendations regarding exercise.
