MHP has engaged consultants to spearhead an energy and water renovation project, backed by $2.3 million from the National Housing Trust. This initiative aims to improve the sustainability and efficiency of the complex, reducing utility costs for residents and minimizing the environmental impact. According to the EPA, energy efficiency upgrades can reduce household energy consumption by up to 25%, highlighting the potential benefits of this project.

The Wheaton Community Center recently participated in Montgomery County’s first World Water Day celebration, showcasing a pinata crafted by talented women from the Wheaton community. This event aligns with the United nations’ mission to raise awareness about the 2.2 billion people worldwide who lack access to safe freshwater.

The goal is to raise awareness of the 2.2 billion people around the world who do not have access to safe freshwater. Although water covers about 71% of the earth’s surface area, only 3% of it is fresh water!

From a local perspective, the event provided an chance to share information about ongoing efforts to protect local rivers, streams, and drinking water sources.
