The pedestrian zones in Greifswald, particularly Schuhhagen and Lange Strasse, are intended as spaces for leisurely strolling. However, an increasing number of cyclists and e-scooter riders are reportedly disregarding the rules, creating perhaps hazardous situations for pedestrians.

Concerns have been raised about the safety of vulnerable individuals, including children, seniors, and tourists, who may be at risk from fast-moving cyclists and e-scooters. Despite existing signs and regulations, violations persist, prompting calls for stricter enforcement.

In response to these concerns, the city’s police and municipal service (KOD) conducted a joint operation targeting cyclists and e-scooter users in the pedestrian zone. During the check, authorities identified 13 violations, resulting in fines for the offenders.

Increased Fines for Cyclists

The cyclists now face a fine.

The crackdown on cyclists in the pedestrian zone reflects a broader effort to balance mobility with pedestrian safety. The existing regulations prohibit cycling in the designated area between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to ensure a relaxed environment for pedestrians.
