On Saturday, the rural center of Mons transformed the village hall into a green carpet temple. For this great first, the success exceeded the organizers’ expectations, confirming the undiminished appeal of poker, a game of strategy and patience.
From 2 p.m., the participants began the confrontation in an atmosphere that was both electric and good-natured. For Jérôme Daubigny, president of the rural center, the logistics were precise: “We limited the tournament to one hundred players, with ten tables of nine players and one table of ten,” he explains. If the competition was serious, the spirit remained associative. Here, no money at stake, but a prize to delight enthusiasts. “There are €3,500 worth of prizes,” specifies the president.
A night marathon
The tournament lasted almost eleven hours. It was only around 1 a.m., after a thrilling final duel, that Dorian finally won, becoming the first winner in the history of this competition. A success that relies on the shadow of volunteers: “We thank our volunteer dealers for their commitment and their passion. Without them, nothing would be possible!”, underlines Jérôme Daubigny. Building on this triumph which “energizes our beautiful village”, the rural center promises new large-scale events.
