Mokpo, under the leadership of Mayor Park Hong-ryul, is actively pursuing innovative solutions to address climate change and tackle urban challenges.The city’s commitment is evident in its participation in the Ministry of Land,Infrastructure,and Transport’s Jiangsu Smart City Creation Project,where it has implemented various smart technologies as 2023.

Interactive Upcycling experience at the Festival

Festival-goers will have the possibility to participate in hands-on upcycling activities at a dedicated experience booth. Two key programs will be featured:

Eco-Kind Whale Keyrings

Participants can create Eco-friendly Whale Keyrings using recycled waste fishing nets. This activity highlights the potential of transforming discarded materials into valuable and appealing products.

Personalized Initial Keyrings

Another engaging activity involves assembling personalized initial keyrings from recycled plastics. This program demonstrates the versatility of recycled plastic and encourages creative reuse.

Building a Sustainable Circular Economy

Beyond the festival activities, Mokpo is committed to establishing a comprehensive smart-up service promotion zone. This initiative aims to create a sustainable circular economy by collecting marine waste and transforming it into valuable resources. This approach aligns with global efforts to reduce plastic pollution in oceans, which currently sees an estimated 11 million tons of plastic entering the ocean each year.
