Following a disappointing defeat against Clermont (10-23) on Saturday, in the last match of the top 14 season, MHR president Mohed Altrad addressed supporters, expressing his dedication to the club but also highlighting ongoing disputes with the city, which owns the stadium. Altrad has previously raised issues regarding the maintenance of the lawn during the winter and has now accused the community, lead by Michaël Delafosse,of obstructing his progress plans for the club.

Altrad stated, “If we want to win more titles and break our glass ceiling, we have to make our infrastructure more professional. I have always wanted the best for this club. I carry an ambitious project, an 200 million euros project in the creation of a rugby village.”

the proposed rugby village, according to Mohed Altrad, would involve: “You have to renovate a dilapidated stadium, far from the standards of other clubs at the top of the table, build a new training center, make this center more alive all week for you, the supporters.”

Future of Stadium Rental in Question?

While seemingly less forceful than in previous statements, Mohed Altrad’s message was clear: “I wonder about the will of the city of Montpellier to see rugby shine.” He drew comparisons to the situations of MHSC (football) and MHB (handball), implying a disparity in support.

According to the Montpellier president, the city’s perceived inaction could lead to important changes: “Faced with the end of this mayor and his disinterest of the club, I wonder about the possibility of leaving the Yves-du-manoir stadium. We want the best.Decisions must be made for you, for us.”

Altrad is considering not renewing the AOT (authorization for temporary occupation of the public domain) next year, potentially leading the club to relocate to another city or a new, privately-owned stadium. he indicated that all options are on the table, including the possibility of moving to the Béziers stadium.
