A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 4:53 a.m. for heavy snow until 6 a.m. for Southern Herkimer, Southern Fulton, Western Schenectady and Northern Fulton as well as Montgomery County.
“At 4:53 a.m., a band of heavy snow was along a line extending from 9 miles southwest of Lake Pleasant to near Exeter Center and moving southeast at 30 MPH,” says the weather service.
Locations impacted by the alert include Amsterdam, Gloversville, Johnstown, Ilion, Herkimer, Little Falls, Canajoharie, Fonda, Mohawk, Frankfort, Fort Plain, Dolgeville, St. Johnsville, Ephratah, Hagaman, Ohio, West Winfield, Newport, Stratford and Middleville. This includes Interstate 90 between exits 27 and 30.
According to the weather service, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.”
