Moelven Hotel Build: Record Time Project | Working Life

Hotel Loa, located on the Icelandic south coast, opened a few months ago. However, it is the speed of the project that has attracted attention, where locally produced modules from Moelv – with finished rooms and complete bathrooms – played a central role.

Moelven Byggmodul has delivered a total of 98 modules for the project: 72 modules for the hotel room wing and a further 26 modules for an independent staff building, the company states in a press release.

Moelven also states that the actual module production took only 20 days at the factory in Moelv. Here, engineers and professionals in construction, plumbing, electrical, locks, fittings and logistics work together to deliver quality prefabricated modules with short delivery times.

In parallel with the module production in Norway, the contractor in Iceland carried out the groundwork and erected a site-built part that houses the reception and restaurant area in the hotel building. When the wooden modules left the factory in Moelv, the hotel rooms were finished and ready for furnishing.

The bathrooms were delivered complete with plumbing installations, WC, bathroom fittings, shower walls and mirrors. All that remained was to hang up towels and stock up on soap and toilet paper.

– We have used this construction method in previous hotel projects. Moelven Byggmodul has also been our supplier of solid, Norwegian wooden modules, says Vilhjálmur Sigurðsson, chairman of Hotel Loa.

Among other things, the hotel contains complete bathrooms, fully built indoors in the factory at Moelv.

3,000 modules annually

Sales and marketing director Jørn Eirik Erlund at Moelven Byggmodul says that Hotel Loa is a good example of what can be achieved by using modules in hotel projects.

– When we produce all or large parts of the hotel building in a factory, the developer gets a far more predictable and efficient project implementation. It makes it possible to open earlier, so that the return on the investment comes faster, he says.

Moelven Byggmodul produces modules that are used for, among other things, hotels, schools, kindergartens, care homes, student housing, canteens, offices and accommodation solutions for the building and construction industry.

The company produces around 3,000 modules annually.
