A woman has been charged with child abuse after Callaway County Sheriff’s Deputies said she had not given proper medical care to a child.
On September 25, 2025, deputies were told that an 11-year-old child was not getting needed medication or injections.
When speaking to the child’s primary caregiver, Jennifer R. Shiflett, 40, she said the child had not had treatment for seven or eight months, when they are required once every two weeks.
The child was taken into custody by the Children’s Division.
Five days later, the Children’s Division contacted deputies.
They had been in contact with the children’s division in Illinois, who said the child’s case worker had taken him to the emergency room on August 29, for symptoms of his disease.
Court documents state that Shiflett admitted that she moved to Missouri from Illinois to avoid questions from the child’s school and the children’s division about the child’s care.
Prosecutors charged her with the Abuse/Neglect Of A Child – No Sexual Contact.
She was being held in the Callaway County Jail without bond.
