Authorities in Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil, are investigating the deaths of three women whose bodies were discovered on Saturday, August 16th, in a vegetated area on the outskirts of the city. The women, who had been missing since Friday, August 15th, have been identified as Alexsandra Suzart, Maria Helena Bastos, and Mariana Silva.

Alexsandra Suzart and Maria Helena Bastos were teachers in the municipal school system. Mariana Silva, 20, was the daughter of Maria Helena Bastos. The City of Ilhéus has declared three days of official mourning to honor the victims and express solidarity with their families and friends.

The Association of Ilhéus Professional Teachers also decreed three days of mourning, conveying that the act of violence has deeply affected the entire school community.
