Miloslav Šimek Affair & Disappearance | Zuzana Bubílková

A loner who loved nature

Despite his popularity, Miloslav Šimek was rather a closed person. He spent a large part of his free time outside of Prague, mainly in southern Bohemia, where his parents came from.

In the 1960s, he and his family started going to the area around Soběsuk in the Klatovsk region. He fell in love with the landscape so much that he later bought an old forge near the former quarry and gradually transformed it into a cottage.

He literally built the surroundings according to his ideas. He cleaned up a neglected quarry, planted trees, built a tennis court and even played hockey here in the winter. He loved sports all his life – friends remember him as a passionate tennis player who hated losing.
