Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new decree that orders military service for 135,000 citizens this fall.
This is reported by the state news agency TASS, according to Sky News.
The autumn call in the country is the largest since 2016.
Russia conducts two annual notes for conscripts in the country, in the spring and in the fall.
Earlier this year, Putin ordered conscription for 160,000 citizens by mid -July, which is the highest number in the spring since 2011.
In last year’s recruitment in the spring part, 150,000 soldiers were summoned to service, up from 147,000 soldiers in 2023, according to NTB news agency.
The Kremlin has increased the country’s army force three times since the start of the invasion in 2022.
In principle, conscripts should not participate in the war against Ukraine, but have several times been involved in matches on the borders. However, some of them should have been sent to the front by mistake.
Russia has a staffing model with both conscripts and contract soldiers. The duty of military service applies to all men between the ages of 18 and 30.
In 2024 and 2025, the law was changed, so that the upper age limit was raised from 27 to 30 years.
The recruitment of contract soldiers has also escalated over the past year.
During 2025, the authorities recruited around 280,000 new contract soldiers, according to The Kyiv Independent.
TV 2 has recently mentioned Russia’s new recruitment campaign, aimed directly at people with HIV and other serious illnesses.
“Overall, this can be understood in a wider picture, where you turn to very creative recruitment methods to avoid a full mobilization,” FFI researcher Joakim Brattvoll told TV 2 last week.
