CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Southeast Wyoming will experience another stretch of unseasonably mild weather this weekend, though a High Wind Warning has been issued for the Cheyenne area as strong gusts prepare to move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, temperatures for Saturday are expected to reach the upper 50s, nearly 20 degrees above average for early January. An upper-level ridge building over the area will maintain these spring-like conditions through Sunday, with nighttime lows only dipping into the 30s.
The calm conditions are expected to shift late Saturday night as a High Wind Warning takes effect for central Laramie County, including Cheyenne, from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Forecasters anticipate west winds between 25-40 mph with gusts reaching up to 65 mph. The strongest winds are expected in the traditional wind-prone corridors along I-80 and I-25, where gusts could top 70 mph, posing a significant blow-over risk for light, high-profile vehicles.
While lower elevations remain dry, moisture moving in from the west will bring snow back to the mountains. In Cheyenne, the mild trend is forecast to continue through Wednesday before a weather shift brings more seasonable conditions. A slight chance of snow showers will enter the Laramie County Forecast for Thursday and Friday, as temperatures drop into the lower 30s and upper 20s.
