Migrant Labor Future: FCJ Refugee Center Insights

by Archynetys World Desk

On November 16, partners, advocates and migrant workers gathered in Winnipeg for the Canadian Council for Refugees (CCR) Committee on Precarious and Exploited Migrants Forum: Voices of Resistance: Forging the Future of Migrant Labor.

We talked about the urgent harms that Bill C-12 can do, the impact of conditional or closed work permits, increased deportations and labor exploitation, barriers to health care and legal protection, and the growing fear caused by regressive immigration policies.

Together, we highlight the crucial contributions of migrant workers, challenge anti-migrant narratives, and develop strategies for real change: stronger rights, open work permits, pathways to permanent residency, and collective action.
