Microsoft Tests Improved File Sharing Between iPhones and PCs

File Sharing Makes a Leap Forward: Microsoft Upgrades Phone Link for iPhone

Microsoft continues to bridge the gap between Windows and iOS with a welcome update for its Phone Link app. Windows Insiders are now testing a new feature that simplifies file sharing between iPhones and PCs, bringing the experience closer to what Android users enjoy.

How the New File Sharing Works

Previously, transferring files between iPhone and PC required workarounds. This update streamlines the process, utilizing the familiar iOS share sheet. Users can now select "Link to Windows" when sharing a file, allowing them to choose their target Windows device.

Sharing from a PC is equally easy. Right-clicking a file and selecting "share" followed by "my phone" delivers the file directly to the connected iPhone.

### Phone Link: Slowly Closing the Gap

While this update represents significant progress, the Phone Link app for iPhone remains limited compared to its Android counterpart. Apple’s OS restrictions largely prevent full integration, like mirroring phone apps onto the PC.

Additionally, while users can now send and receive iMessages through Phone Link, this functionality is restricted to one-on-one conversations and lacks support for group messages.

### Looking Ahead

Despite the limitations, Microsoft’s consistent efforts demonstrate their commitment to bridging the Windows-iOS divide. The rollout of this seamless file sharing feature to all Phone Link users in the coming months is a welcome step forward, making cross-platform collaboration more convenient and efficient.
