Enhanced Performance on the Horizon: Microsoft Office Startup Boost

Microsoft is rolling out a new feature called Startup Boost designed to substantially reduce the launch time of Office applications. This enhancement, slated for release to supported Microsoft Office users in May 2025, promises a more responsive and efficient user experience.

In today’s fast-paced work environment, application load times can significantly impact productivity. According to a recent study by the Software Usability Research Lab, employees spend an average of 15 minutes per day waiting for applications to load. Microsoft’s Startup Boost aims to reclaim some of that lost time.

System Requirements and Availability

To take advantage of Startup Boost, users will need a system with at least 8 GB of RAM and 5 GB of available storage space. this ensures the feature can operate smoothly without impacting overall system performance.

The Startup Boost option will be located within the Office application settings under options > General > Startup Boost.Importantly, this feature will be optional, giving users the flexibility to enable or disable it based on their preferences.

How Startup Boost Works: A Deep Dive

Under the hood, Startup Boost functions as a Windows scheduled task. It pre-loads essential office components in the background, allowing applications to launch more quickly when needed.This process is initiated automatically when a user logs into their system.

This implementation adds two new entries to the Task Scheduler: Office Startup Boost and Office Startup Boost Logon. These tasks are crucial for the feature’s functionality, ensuring that Office components are ready to go when the user needs them.

Power Saving Considerations

As previously mentioned, users retain full control over Startup Boost. The feature is not enabled by default, allowing individuals to tailor their Office experience to their specific needs and preferences.
