Michigan Snowstorm: Up to 8 Inches & Weather Advisory

by Archynetys News Desk

The very cold air blowing across Lake Superior this weekend will create heavy lake-effect snow. The Lake Superior shoreline counties all across the Upper Peninsula have a winter weather advisory for much of the weekend and early next week.

Here are the counties in the winter weather advisory area.

Even the Upper Peninsula will be waiting on the cold air to make lake-effect snow. The winter weather advisory doesn’t start until 7 p.m. Saturday.

Once the lake-effect snow starts Saturday evening, it will continue until Monday night. With the wind blowing mostly from the north, there will be accumulating snow all through the Upper Peninsula.

Here’s the total snowfall expected by the end of the snowy period Monday night.

Just about everywhere in the Upper Peninsula you will encounter 1″-2″ of snow. Due to the north wind giving the air the longest time over water, a heavier area of snow is expected around Marquette and east of Marquette. That heavy area can expect 4″-8″ of snow by Monday night.

The ground is still warm, and the sun still has a little power. These two factors mean the roads could stay mostly wet, with snow melting as it hits the surface.

But I would prepare for your first real winter driving situation across our beautiful Upper Peninsula.
