Despite the publicized crisis, they are one of our most stable couples. Dominika Cibulková married Michal Navara in 2016, after about six years of relationship. Even before Michal became an official part of Dominika’s team, he worked in an official position. As a recent graduate, he was employed at the Ministry of Agriculture in the forestry section, more specifically in the wood processing department. As the former tennis player admitted today, leaving such a place was not too big a sacrifice for him. “After about half a year that we met, you know that I traveled a lot, it was so far away. My coach knew that he was working somewhere in an office at the ministry and you know how, what do you earn? Nothing with nothing. I knew that he wasn’t, I don’t want to say, ambitious, but that he simply didn’t see himself in the job,” Dominika said for Ján Ďuricu’s podcast.
She agreed with the coach’s proposal. “My coach told me why doesn’t he actually start traveling with you? The €900, I don’t know at the time, won’t save you if he puts it in a joint budget and it will only help you,” she quoted his words further, adding that it was a win for both parties.
Sympathy at first sight
They met through mutual friends. Even though they used to see each other at Golden Sands, the breakthrough came in the former Bratislava club Kartel. His friend invited Michal to the box where Dominika was sitting. Both of them automatically recognized the other and since they found out that they had the same mobile phone – from which they could send the same brand of special message – they exchanged contacts.

It was not a joke, Michal was just not a sports fan. The rules of tennis were largely unknown to him. Nevertheless, he supported her at every match and was also in charge of other duties:
“I do everything to ensure that Dominika can only play tennis and not worry about anything else that might distract her from her concentration. I get plane tickets, help her with packing, prepare meals, plan transportation, book hotels, oversee anti-doping bookings – as a professional tennis player, she has to report every day for one hour of the day where she is and where she can be reached anti-doping control. Furthermore, I take care of all activities within the framework of cooperation with companies and a lot of other mundane and unusual little things,” he told Refresher.
The full-time job was, of course, also financially rewarding. And that was met with prejudice in Slovak society. Despite this, he did not pay attention to a few haters, and not one of them stopped at the unkind comments.

His father-in-law, Milan Cibulka, was also skeptical of Michal. Besides looking at his only daughter’s boyfriend with a natural, suspicious eye, he had other concerns. “He wanted to protect her. Dominika was working, she had a successful career and her husband was part of her team. She worked hard and was afraid some guy would pull her down.” said Dominika’s mother, Katarína. When Milan saw that his daughter was really in good hands and Michal became part of her professional team, prejudices disappeared.
And so, not even two years later, when Dominika was 22 and Michal 27, a surprise came. Our tennis player said yes to her partner and the couple got engaged. However, even considering the workload, the wedding came only after 4 years. However, it was really pompous and was attended by up to 250 guests.

What is Michal doing today?
In the same year, Dominika won the (WTA Finals) in Singapore. Three years later, she officially announced the end of her career. Michal also ended up in his position with her, who today, like his wife, is engaged in business.
While our former athlete’s business primarily focuses on an exercise app or a children’s clothing store, Navara is interested in a completely different segment. A graduated engineer, he went into business in the gastro industry. It should be noted that he works as a partner in all four companies that are managed by him to date.

The first one, which runs a cafe outside the capital, is owned by MEP Monika Beňová and her partner. She has been one of Dominika’s closest friends for many years and is also the godmother of Ninka’s daughter. The company was founded in 2023 and can be proud of its fabulous profits. While in 2023 she earned “only” €13,640, in 2024 the company’s profit rose to €103,878. Other companies have significantly smaller sales, while one of them focuses on the sale of baguettes, while the other operates a well-known Bratislava chain of cafes. It is owned by Michal Navara together with Dominika’s father.

After the information about the crisis in the relationship, we did not see the Navars together. According to Dominika, it is nothing deeper. “These are our personal matters, which we will not deal with publicly. However, in any relationship, problems can arise from time to time, but it is not true that my husband and I would separate,” she spoke exclusively to Diva.sk, but in the meantime the media also reported that her husband was seen with another woman who is Ukrainian – the manager of his cafes:

However, when we will see the couple together again is still a mystery. Just a few days ago, information appeared in the weekly Plus 7 dni about the fact that Michal went to the theater – this time without his partner. He was accompanied by her court stylist Andrej Kusalík, so it is questionable whether Domča just didn’t make it, or whether they need more time to resolve the crisis. However, she subsequently gave a statement to Šport24 that her relationship with her husband has really changed and that they are going to therapy together to solve their crisis. She also recalled the times when it all started to change:
“Michal has been with me practically all the time, since I was still playing professional tennis. He even left his job for me and started taking care of me and helping me in everything. I was used to the fact that he was there for me practically 24 hours a day. Life then started to change when I finished playing tennis, children came and so on. Michal devotes himself to his cafes and this job absorbed him in a good way. Even then it it started to be a little different. I was used to him always being there for me, which is still the case now, but he already has other activities. So this is also one of the things that has changed in our relationship,” revealed Dominika, saying that she did not deny anything even when asked that according to the information that is circulating, each of them has already found someone else. She just stated emphatically that this is their private matter, which does not belong in the media. However, she ruled out divorce…
