After a month-long search spanning across international borders, Mexican authorities have apprehended Yolanda Marodi in connection with the murder of her wife, Rebecca “Becky” Marodi, a respected fire captain in Southern California. The arrest occurred in Mexicali, a city situated approximately 2.3 miles south of the U.S. border.
The Ministry of Citizen Security of Baja California (SSCBC) confirmed the arrest and subsequent transfer of Marodi to U.S. custody. Working in conjunction with the National Migration Institute of Mexico (INM), Marodi was handed over to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department at an American port of entry.

rebecca’s mother,who resided with the couple,alerted authorities after discovering her daughter had been stabbed. security footage then captured Yolanda Marodi, changing clothes and loading belongings, pets, and luggage into her silver Chevrolet Equinox before leaving the premises. Records from the Department of National Security indicate the vehicle crossed into Mexico later that night, approximately 45 miles south of Ramona.
A History of Violence: Suspect’s Prior Conviction
Adding a disturbing layer to the case, Yolanda Marodi has a prior conviction for voluntary manslaughter. In 2003, she pleaded guilty to the stabbing death of her husband, Jim Olejniczak, which occurred in 2000. She was released from prison a decade later. Emergency responders found Rebecca Marodi with multiple stab wounds to her neck,chest,and abdomen. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
