Two Meteor-M satellites will be integrated into the international search and rescue system.
Hydrometeorological satellites Meteor-M n°2-3 et 2-4launched into orbit between 2023 and 2024, have completed their tests and are ready for use within the system COSPAS-SARSAT.
This integration will extend the coverage of the system and accelerate the detection of ships, aircraft and people in distress.
This information was announced by specialists from RKS (part of Roscosmos) at the International COSPAS-SARSAT Council.
In addition, RKS is modernizing two ground stations to make them compatible with relay satellites Louch-5 (which receive second generation radio beacon signals). They will be integrated into the system in 2026.
An agreement was reached with Qatar regarding the use of satellites Elektro-L n°3 and n°5 (planned for launch) to provide Qatar National Search and Rescue Forces with COSPAS-SARSAT operational information.
