A Widespread Outage Confirmed
Reports of outages began flooding social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky, with users expressing their frustration and seeking information. Downdetector, a website that tracks website and service outages, shows over 90,000 reports for Facebook alone, with similar issues reported for other Meta platforms.
Meta Acknowledges the Issue and Promises a Fix
In a tweet confirming the outage, Meta stated, "We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience."
Interestingly, Meta executives themselves have also taken to X to acknowledge the issue and assure users that a fix is in the works.
This is not the first time Meta has faced a major outage. In March 2024, a similar outage disrupted access to its platforms for several hours. Meta attributed that outage to a "technical issue" as well, but details regarding the underlying cause have not been publicly disclosed.
