[알파경제=(시카고) 김지선 특파원] U.S. Metaplatforms has recruited Apple’s long-time key design executive Alan Dye.
As Meta accelerates the development of AI-based consumer devices, it has brought in the head of design from rival Apple.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed on the 3rd (local time) that Dai is joining Meta.
Dai will join Meta as Chief Design Officer (CDO) on December 31.
He joined Apple in 2006 and has led the human interface design team since 2015. During his tenure, he oversaw the design of Apple’s major products, including the Vision Pro headset, iPhone X, and Apple Watch, and oversaw a large-scale redesign of Apple’s operating system (OS) and various apps.

Meta’s hiring of Dai is interpreted as part of its strategy to expand its consumer hardware area beyond smart glasses.
Meta is producing AI-based smart glasses in collaboration with Essilor Luxottica, which owns Ray-Ban and Oakley.
In Silicon Valley, the war for talent to secure a competitive edge in AI is intensifying. Meta is aggressively recruiting talent and expanding cooperation with startups to stay ahead of competitors in the development of next-generation hardware and software.
Dai’s departure is in addition to a series of departures of Apple’s senior executives in recent months. Previously, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jeff Williams and AI head John Giannandrea left the company.
