The Strategic Management of the IRCCS Neurolesi Centre “Bonino Pulejo”announces that it has already proceeded, a few months ago, with the activation of theUOC Spinal Unit which completes the range of health services offered in the rehabilitation sector.
The Operational Unit, in total harmony with the mission of the Institute, focused on translational clinical research in the field of neuroscience and serious brain injury acquired, deals with the treatment of patients with spinal injuriesmaking use of innovative technologies including robotics for the implementation of rehabilitation protocols.
The activation of the Spinal Unit UOC was strongly supported by the Strategic Management of the IRCCS, composed of the Director General Maurizio Lanzathe Scientific Director Angelo Quartaronethe Medical Director Marcellus Nucifora and the Administrative Director Maria Felicita Crupi and was achieved thanks to the commitment of the UU.OO.CC. of Neurorehabilitation, Neurology and Recovery and Functional Rehabilitation, respectively directed by Dr Carmela Rificiby Dr. Rosario Grugno and by Dr. Edoardo Sessa.
“This result is the result of a wise collaboration between all the professional figures of our Institute – declared the General Director Maurizio Lanza. The effort made by all the medical, nursing, OSS and rehabilitation technical staff was noteworthy, which allowed the activation of 7 beds at the Piedmont Hospital, with almost unchanged economic resources. All this – continues Lanza – was also possible thanks to the work of discussion and close collaboration with all the trade union organizations that I specifically want to thank”.
The objective was also achieved thanks to the expansion of the spending ceiling for the hiring of personnel, authorized by the Department of Health of the Sicilian Region during the year and intended for the recruitment of the necessary medical and sector personnel. Requests for access to hospitalization at the Spinal Unit are managed through a public procedure on the institutional website www.irccsme.it, subsequently evaluated, on the basis of rigid criteria identified by the Institute, by the specific multidisciplinary hospitalization commission.
