Lionel Messi will not be able to take part in the quarter -final match of the League Cup on Wednesday evening.
The Inter Miami star player suffers from a “minor” muscle injury which prevents him from facing the Uanl tigers.
Messi was injured against Necaxa on August 2 during the group phase, leaving the field in the 11th minute of play. The captain missed the following matches against the Pumas Unam and Orlando City.
The attacker returned to the game on Saturday as a reservist against the Los Angeles Galaxy, recording a goal and a pass in 45 minutes of action.
Despite his contribution, head coach Javier Mascherano confirmed that Messi concluded the game without being 100 % and that his case was going to be examined.
The No. 10 trained separately from his teammates in the last days leading to the quarter -finals, giving his participation in doubt. Mascherano first declared that his presence was not yet excluded, but that they were going to remain attentive to his state of health.
“Leo did not train with the group, he trained separately. It’s a bit like the situation in the last match, he didn’t feel comfortable during these 45 minutes of play, “Mascherano said on Tuesday.
Messi presented himself at the Chase Stadium with his teammates today, but was not in uniform. He will therefore look at the stands by wishing to see his troop beat that of the Liga MX to access the semi-finals.
Messi guided Inter Miami to the trophy shortly after its beginnings, in 2023, during the first edition of the competition.
