Lionel Messi played a hero’s role for Inter Miami on Saturday night. The Argentinian scored two goals and provided the 400th assist of his career in the 4-0 win over Nashville SC.

On Saturday night, Inter Miami played the decisive third match in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs against Nashville. The MLS Cup Playoffs are a best-of-3 series (whoever wins 2 games first advances).

Messi contributed to a historic victory with his goals and assist: Inter Miami reached the next round of the MLS play-offs for the first time in their existence. They won the series 2-1 (first game 3-1 win, second 1-2 loss, third 4-0 win).

Messi was already accurate in the tenth minute on behalf of the Florida team. The former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player picked up the ball halfway through the opponent’s half, dribbled forward and shot across the ground from just outside the box: 1-0.

Messi also made it 2-0 before half time. A nice attack in the opponent’s penalty area was calmly tapped in by the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

In the second half he had a wonderful assist with the fourth goal. He put away Tadeo Allende with his right, who then scored the best of the evening with a great marker. For Messi it was the four hundredth assist of his career.

Inter Miami’s next opponent is FC Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The match will be played in Cincinnati and will be a one-game affair.
