Lionel Messi‘s free kick in the 54th minute secured a 2-1 victory for Inter Miami against FC Porto in a Group A match of the club World Cup on Thursday afternoon.

Porto initially took the lead with Samu Aghehowa’s penalty kick in the eighth minute, but Marcelo Weigandt set up Telasco Segovia’s equalizing goal in the 47th minute.

Miami’s second goal came early in the second half when Messi converted a free kick past Porto goalkeeper Claudio Ramos, marking the 68th free-kick goal of his career.

In another match, Atlético Madrid defeated the Seattle Sounders 3-1 in their Club World Cup match. Pablo Barrios scored twice for Atlético,with Axel Witsel adding another goal.Danny Musovski scored for Seattle.

Barrios’ frist goal came after Giuliano Simeone’s effort, who cut back to evade a defender adn crossed low towards the penalty arc. Barrios met the cross and fired a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar.

Barrios’ second goal in the 55th minute was a half-volley past goalkeeper Stefan Frei after Seattle failed to clear Marcos Llorente’s long throw.

Atlético had a penalty chance taken away after a video review reversed the referee’s initial decision.

The teams exchanged goals early in the second half. Witsel headed home in the 47th minute after Frei pushed Llorente’s shot onto the crossbar. rusnak scored for Seattle in the 50th minute after a deflected shot.

Palmeiras Secure Victory over Al Ahly

Jose Lopez scored in the 60th minute to give Brazil’s Palmeiras a 2-1 victory over Egypt’s Al Ahly in Club World Cup Group A play in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Weverton made two saves to help Palmeiras maintain a clean sheet.

Palmeiras opened the scoring in the 49th minute with an own goal by Al Ahly’s Wessam Abou Ali, who headed in Anibal Moreno’s free kick.Lopez then scored after a pass from Mauricio.

The match was briefly delayed in the 63rd minute due to severe weather.

Both teams had drawn their first matches, with Palmeiras drawing with porto and Al Ahly with Inter Miami.

Al Ahly’s best chance in the first half came in the sixth minute, but Abou Ali’s shot went wide. Palmeiras’ Estevao’s shot also went wide in the 18th minute.

Palmeiras’ Raphael Veiga initially received a red card, but VAR downgraded it to a yellow. Agustin Giay also received a yellow card. Al Ahly’s Hamdi Fathy and Yahya Attiat Allah also received yellow cards.
