Franki Purdy, just 11 years old, faced a fight for her life after developing meningococcal meningitis, a rare and serious bacterial infection. Initially, the boy’s symptoms, such as tiredness and lack of appetite, were attributed to a lung infection that had already been treated. However, when the situation worsened, with a high fever and pain in his legs, he suffered convulsions and a stroke during the night, without his family noticing. Franki was taken to hospital by emergency, where he was diagnosed with meningitis, which was already at an advanced stage.

The disease, which can be fatal, was discovered too late, and the boy spent 30 days in hospital, with half of that period in a coma. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Franki surprised everyone with her recovery. He still needs help with daily tasks, but is slowly returning to his routine, with medical supervision. Franki’s mother, Martine, shared on social media the strength of her son, who is now called “the miracle boy” by doctors.

The case highlights the importance of an early diagnosis of meningitis, which, if not treated in time, can lead to serious consequences, such as stroke and neurological sequelae. Health professionals warn that the disease begins with common symptoms, such as fever and headache, but progression is rapid, making early diagnosis crucial.
