It is with deep sorrow and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Marvin "Marv." L. Mitchell, who was 86 years old. Beloved by his family, friends, and community, Marv’s life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his passions and his people.

Early Life and Family

Born on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Marvin was the son of the late Richard and Tina Mitchell. Early in life, he was steeped in the rich maritime heritage and seafaring traditions of his island home.

A Life Lived at Sea

Marv’s life was as vast and deep as the seas he loved, leaving behind a legacy filled with stories and experiences. A proud fisherman, he dedicated his life to the sea, particularly herring, seining, and shutting off. With years of experience under his belt, he earned his place as a local legend, constantly perfecting his craft and passing on his knowledge to his son, Francis.

His love for the sea extended beyond fishing. Marv cherished sharing tales of a bygone era, captivating audiences with his stories that often elicited laughter and wonder, even on subsequent retellings.

Endless Joys with Family

Marv’s greatest joy was with his family. His grandchildren were the pride of his life, and he instilled in them the love of fishing and storytelling. His laughter filled every room he occupied, and he was always the loudest voice in the room.

A true advocate for kippers, Marv had a unique passion for these smoked fish, ensuring they were a staple at family meals and gatherings. His love for seafood was a cornerstone of his family’s traditions.

Community and Legacy

Beyond his family, Marv was a respected and beloved community pillar. He shared his wisdom, kindness, and captivating stories with anyone lucky enough to cross his path. His pride in his community was evident in every project he undertook.

Marv is survived by his sons, Patrick and Francis, a large and loving extended family including stepdaughters Sharon, Crystal, and Sherry, stepson Timothy, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife, Sandra; his brothers, Greyson and James; his sister, Evelyn; and other relatives.

Celebration of Life

In honor of Marv, family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2 pm on Jackson’s Wharf, Campobello Island, New Brunswick.
