Finnboda resident Maya Hultman, 22, debuts as a playwright at Unga klar. Her autobiographical play depicts what it is like for a teenager to live with cp damage, npf diagnoses and mental illness.

In front of a blue sky with white wisps of clouds, the actors at Unga Klara act out a scene from “Om jag vetat hur trøgget knads” – the play about Maya Hultman’s life.

The assistants think she should be friends with Oliver.

– Oliver had eye contact with you – and he almost never looks at anyone.

– It would be so fun for him to meet you again. So you can make some new friends in wheelchairs!

– But Oliver is almost 40 years old! Come on!

Maya Hultman reflects in the log together with Unga Klara's marketer Martha Tedla.

Maya Hultman laughs as she watches the actors bring her play to life.

– I trust you until you prove the opposite, she says.

On November 14, Unga Klara premieres. The autobiographical work she has written and directed describes the existence of a teenager living with cp damage, npf diagnoses and mental illness.

Because she has limited mobility, she also lives with personal assistants. The play depicts what it’s like to depend on someone else to live your life – a person who can disappear at any time.

“The role of director helps me navigate life,” says Maya Hultman.

After the play was accepted by Sweden’s national stage for children and young people, Maya Hultman was coached by Gustav Deinoff, director and artistic director at the theatre.

Even though it is her first play, she knows she belongs in the theatre.

– The role of director helps me navigate life. I take back control and have full artistic freedom. All decisions go through me.
