New Film Kit brings LUT workflows and Open Gate to iPhone and iPad.
Mavis has introduced the latest version of its professional iOS camera app Mavis Camera (v7.4). The big update also includes the introduction of Film Kit – an optional in-app purchase that unlocks LUT workflows and open-gate recording for creators looking to get a more cinematic look and flexibility from their iPhone or iPad.
At the heart of Film Kit is a new color workflow: Creators can now import their own .cube LUTs and choose whether they want to preview a look in the viewfinder (without affecting the recording) or whether the LUT should be burned directly into the final file.

This approach also works with HDMI inputs in conjunction with Atomos Ninja Phone – allowing you to preview or record LUT-edited footage from DSLR or mirrorless cameras, as well as the iPhone’s internal camera.
For faster creative results, Film Kit also comes with a range of built-in filter LUTs, including Bleach Bypass, Bunny, Cinematic, IR, Monochrome and Vintage.

All are designed to give shots a cinematic feel with minimal effort. When a production needs to move quickly from capture to distribution, these looks can be captured and incorporated into workflows such as live streaming or NDI.
“With this latest version of Mavis Camera, we wanted to simplify cinematographic decisions,” says Patrick Holroyd, CEO of Mavis. »Film Kit gives creators a convenient way to capture the look they want – whether they’re shooting with an iPhone, DSLR or mirrorless camera – without slowing down production.«
To further simplify color management, Mavis Camera v7.4 introduces MLUTs (MavisLUTs) – a new format that can bundle multiple traditional LUTs and associated metadata into a single file. MLUTs are designed to help teams organize looks more easily, especially when working across different color spaces.

Film Kit also offers the ability to reframe and deliver open gate recordings for different aspect ratios. Mavis Camera offers two open gate modes: one for Apple Log workflows and one for Rec.709, which enables recording above 4K resolution on supported devices. Apple Log 2 is also now supported, in line with Apple’s own professional recording workflows.
In addition to capture and color, v7.4 strengthens cloud support with a free AtomosSphere camera-to-cloud integration that enables progressive uploading to the Atomos ecosystem for review, sharing and collaboration.

A number of smaller improvements round out the release: new white balance presets for faster setup, improved shutter angle selection with snapping to common values (which allows standards such as 180° to be set more reliably), updated translations (now fully available in French, Spanish, Chinese, German and English) as well as numerous bug fixes and performance improvements.
The Mavis Camera app is available to download for free from the App Store. Film Kit features (including LUTs, MLUTs and Open Gate) can be unlocked via a one-time in-app purchase for $9.99.
