With the ever closer entry of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the wait for the official debut of the most famous mutants of the comic on the big screen is growing. However, within this vast and varied group there are such fascinating and complex characters that they deserve much more than a choral role: some of them could hold a solo film without effort.
Rogue
Who knows Rogue Only through the cinematographic version played by Anna Paquin could not have caught the complexity and charm of the character. In the comics, rOgue is much more than a young man insecure with uncontrollabil powersI: is a tormented figure, with an intense and morally ambiguous history. Appeared for the first time as an antagonist in Avengers Annual n.10 (1981), he began his career alongside the Confraternity of evil mutantsby permanently absorbing the powers of Ms. Marvel, an event that marks it deeply. His inner struggle between fault, identity and redemption could offer one of the most exciting and intimate films of MCU.
Jean Grey
Despite Jean Grey has already been at the center of different cinematographic storylines, such as X-Men: Final conflict and Dark Phoenixno transposition has been able to fully grasp its narrative potential. Jean is not just a powerful character: It is the soul of the X-Mena symbol of absolute power and inner tragedy. A film focused on her could finally offer her the space to explore her evolution from a young mutant full of hopes to cosmic divinity overwhelmed by the Phoenix force, delving into the meanders of the conflict between humanity and omnipotence.
Storm
If the Marvel Studios are looking for an iconic figure to be accompanied by the new heroes of the future, there is no need to look beyond Ororo Munroe, Alias Tempesta. Queen, Goddess and Mutant of Omega level, Tempesta is one of the most powerful and respected characters in the universe Marvelyet in his cinematographic appearances he has always remained relegated to a secondary role. A film entirely dedicated to her could explore her African roots, her connection with tribal worship and her path from outsider to leader of the X-Men.
Cyclops
Often underestimated – and in the films so far not valued – Scott Summers, aka Ciclope, is actually one of the deepest characters and controversial of mutant mythology. Professor Xavier’s first student, he is the strategic commander of the X-Men, but also a man marked by a difficult past: separated by his brother at a young age, who grew up in an orphanage, and forced since his adolescence to live with a devastating power that he cannot control. A film about Cyclops could tell its evolution from a shy young man to charismatic leader and, sometimes, ideologically uncompromising. Meanwhile, there are several rumors about who could be the interpreter of the mutant inside the next X-Men of the MCU.
Beast
Hank McCoy, alias Beastrepresents the perfect combination of brilliant intellect and primordial force, in fact, born human, undergoes a further mutation while working on a serum aimed at suppressing mutant powers, transforming itself into the famous creature with a blue hair. Behind its animal appearance there is a refined scientist, a philosopher and a man constantly fighting with his own identity. A film dedicated to beast could explore the conflict between science and nature, acceptance and transformation.
