Mark Randall Volman was born on April 19, 1947 in Los Angeles. He became most famous as a founding member of the rock group The Turtles, which was founded in 1965. He and his colleague from the band and friend Howard Kaylan were also a member of the rock duo Flo & Eddie, using the pseudonym Flo. Tandem played from 1979 to 2018.
Volman was also a member of the band Frank Zappa called The Mother of Invention and also sang vocals in some recordings of Bruce Springsteen and groups Blondie, Duran Duran and T. Rex.
The Turtles recorded five studio albums. Their biggest hit was the song Happy Together from 1967.
At the age of forty, Volman won a master’s degree in screenwriting and continued to teach music at Belmont University in Nashville, USA. Despite the symptoms of his illness, which were also tremors and hallucinations, he continued to perform.
In 2023, he released his memory Happy Forever, in which he described parties with artists such as John Lennon or Hendrix. “Now it all sounds like a dream,” he said in an interview with People magazine.
He was survived by the daughters of Sarin and Hallie, former wife of Patricia, the second wife Emily Volman and brother Phil Volman.
