the life of Marjon Herber from tilburg changes one evening in July 2023 in one fell swoop. At work she gets a phone call: her son Rick (27) died in a motorcycle accident in Moergestel. More than a year and a half later she looks back: “for young people who ride a fat bike recklessly, I think: you don’t realize how life can change at once.”

For Marjon, life has not been the same since that summer evening in 2023. “My day started very nicely, my son said: I’m going to drive with friends tonight.” She herself had to work that evening.
She was suddenly called at work. “I already had three missed calls when I saw that it was my oldest son, Rick had had an accident.” Marjon first thought he might have a broken leg, but it turned out to be much worse. “Then he said,” He’s gone. ” Rick had hit the road with his motorcycle and hit a lamppost.
Rick’s friends
According to Marjon, life after such an event goes on, you can’t imagine that. “You only know when you experience it yourself. But your life continues next to death, it is literally. It is not a day that I don’t cry, my life is no longer a party.”
Yet there are also thoughts that give comfort.”I still have two treasures of boys, two very sweet granddaughters, two sweet daughters -in -law. You just have to keep on, they say.that is true, you have no choice.” She still sees some Rick’s friends. “That is very nice, you can also talk about the stunning things.”
Freedom
What kind of boy was Rick? “He was a cheerful, serious bon vivant,” says his mother. “He took life very seriously and was very good at the ride.He was always worried about others, was ready for everyone and always wanted to help.”
So no reckless motorcyclist. “When he went motorcycling we found it exciting, but he enjoyed freedom so much.He had a very safe motorcycle and he did not ride reckless. My partner also rides motorcycle,rick’s girlfriend and friends too,this is what he wanted.”
