While companies like Sony and Microsoft have explored bringing their games to other platforms, Nintendo has remained focused on its own consoles. Though, this hasn’t stopped fans from creating unofficial PC ports of classic Nintendo titles. now, mario map 64 has joined the ranks of classic games making the jump to PC.

According to VGC, a group of fan programmers known as Harbour Masters has released their Mario Kart 64 port, called SpaghettiKart. harbour Masters, along with numerous contributors, reverse-engineered the original code of Mario Kart 64 and implemented modern graphics options, including support for ultrawide screens, 4k resolution, and higher frame rates.

SpaghettiKart also introduces new features such as the ability to design custom race courses and adjust the difficulty of CPU drivers. Harbour Masters has a history of creating PC ports for other classic games like Star Fox 64, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. These ports feature “clean codes” that don’t utilize any of the original code from the N64 games. However, players are still required to provide legally-sourced ROMs to play these ports.

Earlier this year, another fan project successfully brought Minecraft to Super Mario 64, which was compatible with both a PC emulator and, with some limitations, the original Nintendo 64 console. The latest installment in the Mario Kart franchise, Mario Kart World, launched earlier this month as a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2.

“Harbour Masters and its vast number of contributors reverse-engineered Mario Kart 64’s original code and added modern graphics options.”
