The Sale Sharks have announced the appointment of Marco Bortolami as their new head coach, where he will collaborate with director of rugby Alex Sanderson. The former Italy forward is stepping into the role previously held by Paul Deacon, who departed from the club on Wednesday after serving since 2020.

Bortolami, aged 45, brings a wealth of experience, having served as head coach for United Rugby Championship (URC) club Benetton for the past four years. even though his contract with Benetton was set to run until June 2026, an agreement was reached in February to terminate it early, allowing him to leave at the end of the season.

During his distinguished playing career,the former captain earned 111 caps for Italy,including four years in the Premiership with Gloucester.
