Marciniak: Champions League Return & High-Profile Match

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Szymon Marciniak has not refereed in the Champions League since November last year. In the fall, he coached four matches in the league phase.

At the beginning of spring, his health did not allow him to referee. He returned to UEFA competitions a week ago during the match between Panathinaikos and Real Betis in the 1/8 finals of the Europa League.

Now he returns to this most important European competition.

And he got a heavyweight match: Liverpool – Galatasaray at Anfield (Wednesday, 9 p.m.). A week ago, the Turkish team won 1-0 and is in a more favorable situation before the rematch.

His assistants on the lines will be Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik. The technical referee is Paweł Raczkowski. In turn, the Italians: Marco Di Bello and Daniele Chiffi will be responsible for VAR.

It will be round – sixtieth – Marciniak’s match in the Champions League. Thus, the Pole will be the independent runner-up in the classification of matches played in the Champions League. So far, Marciniak was in second place ex aequo with Bjoern Kuipers.

And he is less and less behind the first, Felix Brych (69), who – let us add – has already retired.
