  • The Ministry of Health of Manizales joins the commemoration of World Oral Health Day, highlighting the importance of adopting oral hygiene habits for the comprehensive well-being of the community.
  • Under the 2026 motto “A healthy mouth is… a happy life”, the call is made for prevention and daily care as keys to improving the quality of life of citizens.

As part of the commemoration of World Oral Health Day, every March 20, the Manizales Health Secretariat reaffirms its commitment to promoting healthy habits that contribute to the comprehensive well-being of the population, to highlight that “a healthy mouth is… a happy life”.

Oral health is essential for people’s general well-being; It allows you to eat, speak and smile with confidence and directly influence the health of the rest of the body. Diseases such as cavities, periodontal disease and tooth loss can significantly affect quality of life, causing pain, discomfort and eating difficulties.

Maintaining adequate oral hygiene helps prevent diseases, improve self-esteem, promote good nutrition and avoid complications in general health. For this reason, the Municipal Administration promotes education and prevention actions aimed at all stages of life.

The date is promoted by the International Dental Federation (FDI) and has been officially celebrated since 2013, with the purpose of raising awareness about the importance of oral care. March 20 has a special meaning: children must have 20 healthy temporary teeth, adults must maintain at least 20 natural teeth, and older adults must maintain functional teeth.

As part of the commemoration, the Manizales Health Secretariat invites citizens to adopt essential practices for oral health care, such as brushing your teeth at least three times a day, flossing daily, limiting sugar consumption, regularly visiting the dentist and maintaining proper cleaning of dental prostheses. Taking care of oral health is a daily action that directly impacts quality of life.
