When music producer Fredrik Andersson thought about who could sing “Christmas in Österlen“, it ended up with Mandelmanns stepping into the studio. The rest is… well, Scanian Christmas music history.
– I didn’t know how musical they were, says Andersson to Ystads Allehanda.
The music producer Fredrik Andersson is known for his songs with Frans – including “Who’s da man” and “If I Were Sorry” – and of course “Mirakel”, which was performed to the audience’s surprise and cheer by Björn Ranelid in Melodifestivalen 2011.
Like many music producers, he has carried the dream of creating a Christmas song. But Andersson also had a more specific vision: a Scanian Christmas dream. The dream? To make a Scanian Christmas record.
Christmas in Österlen
After thinking about who could give life to his Scanian Christmas dreams – and the song “Christmas in Österlen” – it struck him: the Mandelmann couple. Contact was made, and soon they appeared in the studio. However, Marie was a bit strict, Andersson says.
– Strict, haha! No, but I am careful about the context in which we are seen. It has to feel right, says Marie to Ystads Allehanda.
Everything went well and Andersson is, to say the least, satisfied with the result.
– I didn’t know how musical they were, he tells the newspaper.
