There was a fierce confrontation in the Supreme Court yesterday over the removal of names of citizens from the voter list in West Bengal. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself was present in the court as a lawyer and she openly attacked the Election Commission and even called it ‘Whatsapp Commission’. He further said that the SIR process in West Bengal is being done to remove the names of voters. Even living people are being declared dead.
Mamata Banerjee said in the Supreme Court on Wednesday that she has come to the court for justice. He alleged that he had told all the facts to the Election Commission, but he was not heard. On this, the CJI made it clear that there are some new issues in your new petition, but the things you are saying have already been put before the court by your lawyers. During the hearing, Mamata Banerjee talked about democracy and civil rights while mentioning the changes in the spelling of Rabindranath Tagore. He alleged that just before the elections, West Bengal is being targeted and names of voters are being removed from the list on a large scale in the state.
`WhatsApp Commission is Election Commission!’
Mamta Banerjee alleged in the court that West Bengal is being targeted before the elections. Election Commission, sorry, ‘Whatsapp Commission’ is doing all this. Bengal is being targeted, people’s names are being removed without any reason. He said this work usually takes years, but the Commission implemented it in a hurry just before the elections.
