MalchinS Filmbühne Set too Reopen After Five-Year hiatus

A new chapter begins for the historic cinema as “Kiek in” prepares to welcome moviegoers once again.

A Cinematic Revival in Malchin

After five long years of darkness, the silver screen is poised to illuminate the Malchiner filmbühne once more. The last official showing, featuring the life story of German rock icon Udo Lindenberg, feels like a distant memory. Now, under the new ownership of Thomas Braasch and rebranded as “Kiek in,” the venue on Wargentiner Straße is ready for its grand re-opening.

Braasch has poured considerable resources into revitalizing the historic building, aiming to restore a beloved cultural touchstone to the community. Despite a failed auction attempt in 2024,his vision of bringing cinema back to Malchin is about to become a reality.

Intimate Screenings: The Small Cinema Hall

Mark your calendars for April 18th, the date set for the cinema’s relaunch. The initial screenings will take place in the smaller of the venue’s halls, which offers a more intimate setting with a capacity of 32 seats. The hall has a cozy, cozy atmosphere with tables at the seats for drinks and snacks, says Thomas Braasch, emphasizing the unique viewing experience he aims to provide.

This approach aligns with a growing trend towards boutique cinemas, which prioritize comfort and personalized service. According to a recent industry report, smaller, self-reliant cinemas have seen a 15% increase in attendance over the past year, as audiences seek alternatives to large multiplexes.

Beyond the Silver Screen: A Multifaceted entertainment Hub

Braasch envisions “Kiek in” as more than just a cinema. The former main hall has been transformed into a versatile event space, complete with a small stage, seating for approximately 60 people, and a dance floor. This space is available for rent for a variety of occasions, including weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, and holiday celebrations.

This can be weddings, birthdays, company or Christmas parties, Braasch explains. Use for book readings and concerts is also possible. the owner reports that initial events held in the space have been met with excited responses, with guests praising the ambiance of the historic building.

Future Plans: Program cinema and Gastronomic Delights

Looking ahead, Braasch plans to expand the cinema’s offerings to include program cinema, catering to diverse audiences such as children, students, and senior citizens. We would also like to offer a program cinema for children, students and seniors here in the future. We would like to combine the whole thing with a gastronomic offer in our lounge, where we can serve coffee, cake, lunch or dinner before or after the presentation, he states.

The initial film lineup includes the comedy “Oh la, La” and the action-packed “Bee keeper”, with screenings scheduled every Friday starting in mid-April. By combining film screenings with a culinary experience, “Kiek in” aims to become a vibrant social hub for the Malchin community.
