A Champion Emerges After Weather Challenges

Maiar Sherif Ahmed Abdelaziz, the top seed and world number 61, secured the Open Villa de Madrid ITF W100 title, defeating second-seed Renata Zarazúa of Mexico (WTA rank 70) in a compelling final. The match concluded with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in favor of Sherif, marking a significant victory for the Egyptian player.

The start of the match was delayed due to overnight rains, which required extensive work on the court. The organizers and the club’s maintenance team where commended for their efforts in ensuring the court was playable,following their work during the Men’s open Community of Madrid Grand Prix the previous week.

Match Dynamics: Sherif’s Consistent Lead

Throughout the match, Sherif maintained a strategic advantage, consistently dictating the pace and direction of the game. While Zarazúa displayed resilience,Sherif’s control proved decisive.

In the first set, Sherif was the first to break Zarazúa’s serve, but the Mexican player quickly retaliated, leveling the score from 3-1 to 3-3. Though, Sherif, who trains in Elche, Spain, regained control, securing the first set with a score of 6-3.

The second set mirrored the first, with Sherif breaking Zarazúa’s serve early on. Despite Zarazúa requiring medical attention for a hand injury, Sherif maintained her lead, ultimately winning the set and the match with a score of 6-4.

Doubles Title Decided in thrilling Tie-Break

in the doubles competition, the Italian-Kazakhstani duo of Nicole Fossa Huergo and Zhibek Kulambayeva emerged victorious against the Spanish team of Bassols and Andrea Lázaro. The match was decided in a Super Tie Break after a hard-fought battle.

Fossa Huergo and Kulambayeva won the first set 7-6 (7), while Bassols and Lázaro took the second 6-7 (4). The final Super Tie Break saw Fossa Huergo and Kulambayeva clinch the title with a 10-4 victory.

Bassols’ Strong Showing in Singles

Before her participation in the doubles final, Jessica Bassols ribera had a notable run in the singles tournament, reaching the semifinals.She was eventually defeated by Renata Zarazúa, who went on to become the finalist, with a score of 7-5, 2-6, 3-6.

It has been an amazing week. I was eager for this tournament, and the truth is that I leave this week quite happy, very positive, because I have won good games, both individual and double.
