Maha Kumbh Stampede: Haryana Victims Among Casualties, Man Recounts Horrifying Incident

The victims have been identified as Rampati Devi, 60, from Jind’s Rajpura Bhain; Krishna Devi, 75, from Rohtak’s Sampla; and Amit Kumar, 34, from Faridabad.

Grandma’s Devastating Tale

Rampati’s grandson, Narender Kumar, shared a harrowing account of the tragedy. He mentioned that he and his grandmother, along with six others from their village, had traveled to the Maha Kumbh to take the holy dip.

“We reached near the Sangam area around 1-2 pm on January 29 and saw a huge crowd. We decided not to take the dip, but the crowd broke the barricades, leading to the stampede. We fell on the ground, and people trampled over us for nearly 40 minutes. An ambulance arrived, and we were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared my grandmother dead,” he recounted.

Rampati’s last rites were performed in their native village in Jind, leaving her family devastated by the loss.

Mother’s Untimely Departure

Similarly, Krishna Devi had traveled to Prayagraj with her family. During the stampede, she died while her other family members managed to escape unharmed. Her loss has left a gaping void in her family’s lives.

Brother’s Heartache

Amit Kumar’s family narrowly escaped the worst of the calamity. “Amit moved ahead of us during the chaos, and he fell on the ground. We managed to escape but later learned that he had died due to suffocation,” Narender said, his voice heavy with sorrow.

Organizational Failures Highlighted

The incident has raised serious questions about the safety measures in place at the Maha Kumbh Mela. The breaking of barricades and the subsequent stampede suggest that better crowd management strategies were urgently needed to prevent such tragedies.

Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the stampede and reviewing their safety protocols to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.
