Madison Interlock Device Laws: Supporters Push for Change

by Archynetys News Desk

MADISON, Wis. (WSAW) – Drunk driving victims’ families and safety advocates have gathered at the Wisconsin State Capitol to urge lawmakers to pass AB 258, legislation to strengthen the state’s ignition interlock device law and prevent repeat operating while intoxicated offenses.

Speakers include Ronald and Janelle Thomas, of Wausau, whose daughter Kaytlyn was killed by a drunk driver on I-39 on July 12, 2021. Kaytlyn, then age 18, was weeks away from starting her freshman year at UW-Stout.

Representative John Spiros, of Marshfield and others will also talk.

The bill will allow faster installation of ignition interlocks so repeat and first-time high BAC offenders can legally drive sooner – but only with an interlock in place to ensure sober driving.
