The new comedy with Maccio Capatonda is already fifth on Netflix and also beats Cado dalle nubi: a surreal satire on our relationship with digital.

It arrived almost silently, but within a few hours it climbed the rankings. The best of all worlds was released yesterday on Netflix and is already in the Italian Top 10, placing fifth and even surpassing I fall from the cloudsChecco Zalone’s most loved film. A result that surprises and intrigues, especially because it is not the classic reassuring comedy. Under the light surface, in fact, the film hides a very current reflection on our obsessive relationship with technology. And he does it by choosing the strangest possible path: imagine a world where digital has never existed.
What is he talking about The best of all worlds (plot and meaning)
Ennio Storto lives immersed in technology. His work, his relationships, even the way he interprets reality pass through screensnotifications and digital automation. Then, without any warning, something breaks. Ennio finds himself catapulted into 2023 alternative in which progress stopped in the 1990s: no smartphone, no social media, no GPS, no speed.

What initially seems like just a logistical nightmare soon becomes a deeper challenge. In this analog world of push-button telephones, videotapes, telephone booths and long waits, Ennio is forced to confront himself without filters. Every relationship weighs more, every choice takes time, every mistake remains. The film uses paradox to describe a real sentimental education, less comical than it seems and much more human than one expects.
Cast, atmosphere and why it is conquering Netflix
Maccio Capatonda he drives the film with a character built on fragility. Ennio is not a hero nor an extreme comic mask: he is a “modern” man who loses confidence precisely when he is deprived of technology. A more narrative acting performance than usual, which marks an evolution compared to his more sketch-based roles. Next to him, Martina Gatti represents a fundamental counterfield: his character questions Ennio’s vision and demonstrates that analog is not just a punishment, but another possible way of being in the world. Pietro Sermonti completes the picture with a role linked to family and identity, pushing the protagonist to review his idea of success.
The atmosphere alternates gags and bitter moments, playing on the contrast between nostalgia and discomfort. The best of all worlds does not idealize the 90s, but he uses them as narrative friction to talk about the present. And it is probably this mix of comedy and contemporary anxiety that has brought it so high on Netflix, even surpassing an iconic title like I fall from the clouds. A vision that makes you laugh, but above all reflect.
